Send a free SMS to a virtual operator (MVNO)
La Poste Mobile, Lycamobile, Prixtel…
A virtual operator, or MVNO, sells mobile plans without owning a network: it rents coverage from one of France's four network operators. For sending an SMS, this changes nothing at all.
How do I send an SMS to MVNO?
Enter the recipient's number (06 or 07), write your message in 160 characters or fewer, and confirm after the short safety delay. The message reaches the MVNO network within seconds. No sign-up, no credit card.
How a virtual operator works
An MVNO handles customer relations, billing and its own offers, but relies on the infrastructure of Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom or Free Mobile. The message therefore travels over one of the four national networks, exactly as for a direct subscriber.
The main French MVNOs
They include La Poste Mobile, Lycamobile, Auchan Telecom, Cdiscount Mobile, Prixtel, Syma Mobile, NRJ Mobile and Coriolis Telecom. All use 06 or 07 numbers and are therefore reachable from Mon SMS Gratuit.
The key point
Since number portability, an 06 or 07 prefix no longer tells you which operator a number belongs to: any number can be on any network. That is why Mon SMS Gratuit never asks for the recipient's operator — routing is determined automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send an SMS to an MVNO?+
Yes. Every French virtual operator uses one of the four national networks: sending works in exactly the same way.
How can I tell whether a number is on an MVNO?+
You cannot tell from the number, and you don't need to: portability makes the prefix meaningless, and routing is automatic.
