Scope: what these figures measure, and what they do not
These volumes are those of the Mon SMS Gratuit gateway only. They in no way represent French national SMS traffic, whose official statistics are published by ARCEP, the telecoms regulator. Quoting these figures as if they described the French market would be a misreading.
Methodology
An SMS counts as sent once the gateway has accepted it following the sender's confirmation, and as received once it has arrived on the inbound line. Periods follow French time. A long message split into several segments counts as one send, not as the number of segments carried.
