Name what you are thanking for
A generic thank-you reads as good manners; a specific one reads as attention. A single concrete mention — the gesture, the moment, the object — is enough to make the difference.
Send it quickly
A thank-you sent the next day beats a perfect one sent a week later. After a few days the message usually has to apologise for being late, which shifts the subject.
