Definition
A sender ID lets a brand name appear as the sender of an SMS instead of a number, within a limit of 11 characters.
In detail
Instead of a number, the displayed sender can be a string identifying the originator — a brand, a retailer or a service name. Its length is capped at eleven characters.
This presentation comes with a major trade-off: an alphanumeric sender is not a number, so the recipient cannot reply to it. That is why messages using one must give another way to opt out, usually a short code.
